Year 5 Visit Harlow Outdoor Pursuits

Year 5 enjoyed their trip to Harlow Outdoor Pursuits on Monday, September 16th. The children were very respectful towards the instructors during the Health and Safety briefing, and then they were divided into their respective classes. Each class participated in a session that included kayaking and climbing wall activities.

Our activities encouraged everyone to be courageous and determined. The children learned the importance of listening carefully and following the guidelines set by the instructors. Here are their reflections:

Morning – Session 1

Activity: Kayaking

  • Reeva: “It was fun, even though I sometimes felt stuck in the reeds! Once I got out, I really enjoyed being on the water.”
  • Theo: “I had a great time! It was wonderful to see the swans on the water—they looked beautiful.”

Activity: Wall Climbing

  • Sophie: “It was quite hard at first, but when I had the chance to try again, I was amazed at how much faster I climbed!”
  • Carter: “It was really fun, and it was good to have different tasks to do while someone was climbing. Belaying was really important because it ensured the rope was tight enough for the climber to reach the top. You needed a good team around you.”

Afternoon – Session 2

Activity: Kayaking

  • Edward: “I was glad I didn’t fall in! As time went on, I felt quicker and more confident—it was really rewarding.”
  • Felicity: “I enjoyed it, even though I got a bit wet. It was such a lovely day.”

Activity: Wall Climbing

  • Teddy: “It was really good, and also quite scary. When I reached the top, I felt really proud of myself—I couldn’t stop smiling.”
  • Charlotte: “I reached the top! I think it was Fred who motivated me; it felt like he was pulling me up while he was belaying. I had a great time.”

Mrs. Howard and Mrs. Zylstra were delighted by how thoughtful and considerate the children were towards each other. They were also proud to see how respectful and engaged the children were during their activities and towards the instructors, who commented on how much they enjoyed the sessions with the students. Year 5 truly acted as excellent ambassadors for the school—well done!
