Our Friday Assembly began with Miss Gilbert announcing the upcoming Book Fair. She selected a range of books to highlight, reading their blurbs to the school. The children listened attentively and enthusiastically shared whether they were familiar with the authors or how much they enjoyed reading.
Mr. Wilson also contributed to the assembly with a thought-provoking question for the pupils: “If you don’t like bananas, does that mean you don’t like fruit?” This prompted a reflective discussion, and Grace from Year 4 offered an insightful answer: “No, because you may like the taste of another fruit.”
Mr. Wilson praised Grace’s thoughtful response and used it to draw a parallel with reading. He explained that just because someone doesn’t enjoy one genre of book, it doesn’t mean they won’t find joy in another. He encouraged the children to explore different types of books until they find one that captures their interest and brings them pleasure. He reassured them that it’s perfectly acceptable to stop reading a book if it doesn’t meet their expectations—after giving it a fair try—and to keep searching until they discover one they truly enjoy.
Later in the assembly, Mr. Wilson invited staff to draw the names of the children who had won prizes in the Christmas Raffle. The prizes included a front-row seat at the Choir Concert, Christmas Lunch with their family, or one of the fabulous gift baskets. The winners were met with applause as they proudly came to the front of the hall to collect their prizes.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to FOCHS for creating the wonderful festive baskets for the children and the parent raffle basket. These traditions are a cherished part of Christmas celebrations at Coopersale Hall School.
