Christingle Assembly – Friday 6th December 2024

Year 4 welcomed everyone to the hall for our Celebration Assembly. They had crafted their own Christingles during an RE lesson and were excited to share what they had learned with us.

We discovered that the word Christingle means “Christ’s Light” and that each Christingle is made using an orange, a red ribbon, four small sticks, dried fruits or sweets, and a lit candle. Every part of the Christingle holds special meaning. The fruits or sweets represent the fruits of the Earth, the four sticks symbolise the four compass directions and seasons, the orange represents the world, and the red ribbon signifies the blood of Jesus. The lit candle at the center reminds us that Jesus is the Light of the World.

Traditionally, Christingle services are held in churches on the Sunday before Christmas or on Christmas Eve. When the children in Year 4 lit their candles, the lights in the hall were turned off. The glow of the Christingles illuminated the room, beautifully reminding us of Jesus’ role as the Light of the World.

We were delighted to hear Year 4 perform Hey Christingle to the tune of Hear Hosanna. Afterwards, we put our hands together and closed our eyes to join in the school prayer.

Mr. Wilson thoroughly enjoyed his first Christingle Assembly at our school, commenting on how it truly captured the spirit of the festive season.

In the spirit of celebration, we also applauded Ayla in Reception Billington for achieving her gymnastics award. Congratulations, Ayla!
