Food, Nutrition and Sustainability Calendar

To kick off the New Year, Vikki and her team are launching a new program designed to enhance and encourage our children’s familiarity with culinary dishes from different regions of the world. Additionally, they will be offering meals that highlight produce currently in season. To deepen our understanding of cultural events throughout the year, the team will also introduce foods associated with these themes for the children to enjoy.

In January, the children explored Vegan Day, where the menu featured dishes such as chickpea curry and vegan flapjacks. As part of the global foods initiative, the kitchen introduced a “Pan-Asian Korean Pop-Up” menu, which included Korean Beef Gyoza, Danji, and Kimchi—just a few of the dishes the children had the opportunity to try alongside the regular meals prepared by the team.

On January 24th, we celebrated Burns Night with “Neaps and Tatties” and Scottish shortbread, immersing the children in the spirit of this cultural event.

The Lunar and Chinese New Year celebration will take place on January 29th. The children will enjoy Sweet and Sour Chicken, Rice, Prawn Crackers, Spring Rolls, and, of course, Fortune Cookies. To align with traditional lucky symbols for this occasion, the jelly will be red, and the children will also have the chance to enjoy tangerines, a customary fruit associated with good fortune.

Each month, the team will strive to excite the children’s taste buds by introducing them to a variety of new dishes alongside the tried-and-true menu options they know and love. We look forward to the culinary delights February will bring!
