On Thursday 6th March, Year 4 went to The Hive in Epping Forest for their residential trip.
Day 1
On arrival, the children were introduced to our leader, Louise, and shown our first activity – coordinates trail. They independently used a compass to navigate the site and find different cards relating to the coordinates on their clipboards. They particularly enjoyed getting their first peak at the pods. After lunch, the children moved their stuff into their pods and enjoyed some free time to get to know their surroundings. For the afternoon, we walked through Epping Forest including through streams and over tree trunks. The children took part in a range of team building activities such as den building and guiding a blindfolded partner through the trees. After a yummy dinner of quiche or Bolognese, the children roasted marshmallows and shared stories around the campfire.
Day 2
In the morning, the children enjoyed breakfast with their friends and some free time to run around and tidy up their pods ready for another fun day full of activities. Through a circuit of team building exercises, the children worked together to achieve a goal. These exercises included following a path to avoid a mine, guiding each other through a climbing frame whilst blindfolded, using a rope to pick up a ball and place it on a target, jumping through a web without touching it and working together to put a set of tyres in the correct order. Following this, the children enjoyed their baguettes and cake for lunch before taking part in our final activity – animal handling. The children had the opportunity to hold a range of animals including a Giant African Land Snail, Fire Salamander, Stick Insect, Madagascan Hissing Cockroach and Dora, the Corn snake.
The children in Year 4 really did us proud with their excellent behaviour and representation of Coopersale Hall School. An excellent time was had by all.
